High Energy 31
Artist(s): St. Albert High School Students
Date: May 7 to 30
Exhibition Space: Tom Thackeray Gallery
Riots of colour and expression, High Energy 31 celebrates the creativity and dedication of St. Albert’s youth. Their inspirations come from every aspect of their lives. From joys to longings, their work gives voice to their experiences and perspectives. These are shared without limits or expectations, a freedom that comes from just wanting to be seen.
Drawings and paintings sit side by side with collage, digital artworks and sculptures. Students explore and experiment, seeing how each medium suits a different subject or story. Trial and error result in new discoveries, both on the canvas and in the classroom.
These works belong to the students first, holding a small moment that is specific to this time in their lives. A time that is in equal parts awkward and liberating. Students are pushing off the boundaries and limitations that defined childhood, while unsure of what direction the future may bring.
As we move past dozens of works, each created by a grade 10, 11 or 12 student at Bellerose Composite High School, École Alexandre-Taché, École Secondaire Paul Kane High School and St. Albert Catholic High School, we walk past windows into their lives, their world.
