The 1940s Classroom Experience

Activity/Products:
- The historic two-room schoolhouse is a unique location for your class to explore our local history. Students can experience what school was like in the 1940s in our historic classroom. Students take in various lessons while sitting in historic desks, using historic school supplies and following classroom rules. Lessons taught are linked to the curriculum and adjusted for the grade of the class attending, see topics below. The school is in Mission Park and south of the Father Lacombe Chapel provincial heritage site. Our local histories connect us to significant regional and national histories.
- Open to Kindergarten through Grade 12 students. - Access heritage site, washrooms and elevator. - Designated staff for field trip support. - Enjoy a snack or lunch onsite. - Save the cost of transportation by walking or taking public transit.
- Division 1: Students learn about the Little White School heritage site and relate to what school was like for students in St. Albert.
- Division 2: Students learn about the formation of Canada and symbols of confederation.
- Division 3: Students reflect on how being a colony impacted the education system in St. Albert.
- Division 4: Students explore topics of globalisation, nationalism, and ideology through historical thinking.

- Scheduling Requirements:
Schools must schedule a minimum of two programs on the same day with a lunch break in between. If booking three programs in one day, the school must provide a designated room for classes to rotate through for the full day. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate your in-school program request if these requirements are not met.

The Peru and Indigenous Peoples of Canada program perfectly connected Gr 3 Social Studies content with some Gr 4 Social Studies content. We had lots to talk about after.
