Social Sciences: Introduction to Archaeology

Duration: 1.5 Hours

Activity/Products:

  • Grade 5 Social Studies – Students will explore hands-on methods that archaeologists apply to study evidence and learn about the past, such as ground surveys, seriation, typology and excavation. Students will appreciate the collaborative skills required for archaeology. Students will understand how interpretations can evolve based on new evidence and technology.
  • This is an indoor program.

Seasonal Locations
  • Social Studies – Compare the roles of historians, archaeologist, anthropologists and geographers.
  • Social Studies – Interpretations of the past can evolve based on new evidence and technology.
  • Scheduling Requirements:
    Schools must schedule a minimum of two programs on the same day with a lunch break in between. If booking three programs in one day, the school must provide a designated room for classes to rotate through for the full day. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate your in-school program request if these requirements are not met.
