Exploring Art

Grade(s): Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12

Location: Art Gallery of St. Albert

Program Delivery: In Person

Exploring Art Tours are designed for teachers, students and community groups
searching for a multidisciplinary art experience within the setting of a fun and
welcoming contemporary public art gallery in the heart of downtown St. Albert.


We will learn all about the art and artworks in our main exhibitions by looking
and asking questions, participating in fun guided activities and creating your own
personally inspired art!

Student Outcomes:

Pre K–6
  • Learn and develop basic social etiquette when visiting an art gallery or museum.
  •  Discover the cultural, historical, and social contexts of artworks on display through student-centred inquiry and discussion.
  • Engage with art through student-centred games and conversations that promote self-expression.
  • Develop creative expression, critical thinking, and connection to the exhibition through a related age-appropriate art project.

Grades 7–12
  • Discover the cultural, historical, and social contexts of artworks on display through student-centred inquiry and discussion.
  • Employ and expand visual literacy skills involved in examining and appreciating an artwork.
  • Form and express opinions based on critical engagement with the art and the integration of personal worldview.
  • Develop creative expression, critical thinking, and connection to the exhibition through a related age-appropriate art project.
