Culture Days In School Sessions

Limited Opportunity - FREE In School Programs with Arts and Heritage Foundation of St. Albert.

We're offering two programs to select schools who book in September, supported by the Government of Alberta as part of Culture days.

Program I, Pre-k to grade 2 students:

Colour Mixing and Batik – Date TBC

Location: In-School

Time: 9:30 – 11 am 

Registered Program: Maximum 30 students

Students learn the basics of colour theory by using primary colours to create secondary colours. Batik is a type of fibre art using wax and dyes or paint. Wax is applied to fabric by tracing a simple design and the wax serves as a resist, preventing the paint from staining the fabric where it is applied. Students learn what batik is, where it originates, why batik designs were created and how to create a cold wax resist of a batik design.

Program II, grade 5 or 6 students:

School Program II – Linoleum Printing – DATE TBC

Location: In-School

Time: 12 – 1:30 pm 

Registered Program: Maximum 30 students

A fantastic printmaking workshop! Using professional linoleum cutting tools, students carve designs into Safety-Kut blocks. Linoleum blocks are then inked with a brayer and transferred with a baren onto specialty rag paper to produce stunning results. Students learn what Linoleum printmaking is, where it originated, why artists use printmaking techniques and how to use cutting tools, brayers and barens properly and safely.
