Activity/Products:

  • Grade 1 Social Studies - Students will explore the official Canadian symbols of the past and present at the Little White School heritage site. Students will experience a historic English lesson focusing on recitation as a class.

Volunteers: 3–4 recommended

  • Social Studies – Children examine places in communities.
  • Social Studies – Histories are records of events that happened in the past.
  • Social Studies – Canada has official symbols that can contribute to a sense of belonging, including: - The Canadian Flag - Canada’s national colours, red and white - Maple leaf - Maple tree - Canada’s national sports, lacrosse and ice hockey
  • Social Studies – People can demonstrate that they feel a sense of belonging in Canada by following traditions, such as singing “O Canada” and displaying the Canadian Flag.
  • Language Arts - Listening and speaking skills can be developed through discussions, songs, and poems.
  • Language Arts - The volume, emotional quality (tone), and rate of speech (pace), can affect the meaning or clarity of the message.
  • Language Arts - Responding orally to questions during discussions.
  • Language Arts - The Speaking voice is supported by full, deep breaths that can affect volume, tone, and pace.
  • Language Arts - Present stories, songs, poems, or dramatizations individually or as part of a group.
  • Scheduling Requirements:
    Schools must schedule a minimum of two programs on the same day with a lunch break in between. If booking three programs in one day, the school must provide a designated room for classes to rotate through for the full day. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate your in-school program request if these requirements are not met.
