Marianne Watchel grew up in rural Saskatchewan and studied painting at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. Beginning in the early 1980’s she began painting full time, starting with landscapes and moving towards more abstracted work that is still influenced by the rural landscape. Watchel has exhibited her art throughout western Canada and her work is in many private and corporate collections in Canada, the United States and Australia. Watchel attended the Emma Lake Artist Workshops in 1983, 1987 and 1988.
