Force Field

Artist(s): Bonnie Conly

Date: February 4 to April 26

Exhibition Space: Staircase Feature Exhibition

Saskatchewan artist Bonnie Conly has created 100 motankas: 50 maidens and 50 babas in Force Field. By working with her hands, Conly reconnected to the culture and traditions of her ancestors.

Motankas are an ancient Ukrainian tradition, a talisman created to protect the home. They are rooted in women's strength, embodying their ability to hold family, community, and culture, protecting and preserving them for the future.

Force Field holds thousands of Conly's wishes for peace, connection and care. Together, these motankas pay tribute to the women of Ukraine across time and space, each one born of hope.
