Born into a military family, Mike Dendy lived throughout Canada, eventually graduating from the University of Calgary and teaching art for nearly 38 years. When he retired in 2005, Dendy focused on his painting, developing a style which looked to simplify or abstract a landscape in order to provide the viewer with a sense of excitement and connection to a location. Colour is applied in complementary contrasts and shape is conveyed through flattened containers of colour in order to depict light and form. He describes his work as “simply an invitation to look and see what is good”.
